Improving Trade Analysis Using ITC Trade Map (Beta Version) and Export Potential Map
Indonesia’s Fish and Seafood sector have quite an ambitious target of export value up to 8 billion USD by the end of 2028. To support this program, the Indonesia’s Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries needs to build a strong strategy to penetrate a market. This strategy needs to build upon a strong fundamental aspect, one of which robust analysis on market situation both at domestic and international level.
In spirit of strengthening the strategy development, SIPPO Indonesia in collaboration with the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries and the International Trade Center (ITC) conducted two days online workshop on Improving Trade Analysis Using ITC Trade Map (Beta Version) and Export Potential Map on 26-27 August 2026. This workshop was led by Martin Lopez from ITC Geneva and attended by more than 40 participants, mainly the working group leaders under the Directorate General of Product Competitiveness of MMAF.
The training materials focused on the introduction of two main tools of ITC, namely Trade Map and Export Potential Map. The objective was to support the working group leaders familiarize themselves with the ITC tools and to support their analysis for each product through several exercises during the workshop – mainly in identifying products and markets with untapped export potential and in analysing trade flows by product and by country.
This workshop was also equipped with introduction training led by internal MMAF team regarding introduction of fisheries HS codes. This series of workshop shows a strong commitment from MMAF in strengthening the market intelligence efforts, and at the same time it shows a maturity level and shared objectives with SIPPO, to strengthen the export promotion ecosystems.
Following this training, MMAF is planning to transform the training materials into a module to be uploaded into their internal system. SIPPO is looking forward to supporting this effort further and to see it continues beyond SIPPO presence in the country.
